We designed a custom lettering piece and several other visual assets for “SEÑORES”, a music video directed by WILLIE DeVILLE (Jorge Romero) and CHEO BONDAD (José Bueno), produced YO! YO! DOJO and DIOS RECORDS, and starring LOU FRESCO (Lil Supa) and SIBILINO. Both the single and the videoclip are heavily influenced by the ethos and aesthetic of 1970s salsa music. Following the vision of the filmmakers and performers, we conducted an extensive research in order to produce a custom lettering inspired by the genre's striking visuals, which could be applied in the videoclip's title sequence and its promotional material.

Diseñamos una pieza de lettering personalizado y múltiples recursos visuales para “SEÑORES”, un video musical dirigido por WILLIE DeVILLE (Jorge Romero) y CHEO BONDAD (José Bueno), producido por YO! YO! DOJO y DIOS RECORDS, y protagonizado por LOU FRESCO (Lil Supa) y SIBILINO. Tanto el sencillo como el videoclip están inspirados en la estética de la salsa y la música caribeña de los años 70. Acompañando la visión de los directores y los artistas involucrados, se realizó un extenso trabajo de investigación para poder diseñar un rótulo personalizado inspirado en la gráfica característica del género, el cuál sería usado en la placa de títulos del videoclip y el material promocional.

RESEARCH. Extensive searching of historical references, so we could make sure all aspects (copywriting, color scheme, typographical style...) matched those of the eras which inspired the filmmakers in the production of "SEÑORES".
INVESTIGACIÓN. Búsqueda exhaustiva de referencias históricas, para asegurarnos de que todos los aspectos (redacción, paleta de colores, estilo tipográfico...) fueran acordes a la época que inspiró a los realizadores del video.

TYPOGRAPHIC SELECTION. Careful selection of typefaces for the supporting texts that will go along with the custom lettering. Chulapa, a classic grotesque with Spanish heritage. Savate, a reverse-contrast face, which means its horizontal lines are thickest, just like in the bottom-heavy title lettering. Truculenta, a vibrant and quirky condensed inspired by mid-century lettering.
SELECCIÓN TIPOGRÁFICA. Selección cuidadosa de familias tipográficas para los textos que acompañan el rótulo personalizado del título. Chulapa, una grotesca clásica de origen hispano. Savate, una fuente de estrés invertido, donde las líneas horizontales son más pesadas, tal como el el rótulo de “SEÑORES”, que tiene un peso importante en la parte baja de las letras. Truculenta, una vibrante y peculiar condensada inspirada en los rótulos de los años 50.

EXTREME REALISM AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL. To really blend in the lettering with the montage and editing of the music video (which included heavy grain and 35mm film frames), we carefully added slight distortions, jagged edges, scratches and textures resembling those that would be found in an old celluloid sheet used to display title sequences in actual analog film editing. This finish was also inspired by the look of cracked and weathered plastisol inks found on vintage band t-shirts and other merch.
REALISMO EXTREMO Y ATENCIÓN AL DETALLE. Para integrar perfectamente el lettering en el montaje y edición del videoclip (el cuál incluía mucho grano y marcos propios de rollo de película 35mm), se agregaron pequeñas distorsiones, bordes irregulares, rasguños y texturas como las que se encontrarían en una vieja lámina de celuloide transparente, usada para mostrar los títulos en las películas analógicas. Este acabo también tomó inspiración de la apariencia de las camisetas viejas impresas con tintas plastisol y desgastadas por el uso.

PERFORMANCE AND USE. We designed a simplified version of the single's cover art with just the name of the performers and the “SEÑORES” custom lettering, in order to optimize readability and engagement in streaming platforms.
RENDIMIENTO Y USO. Diseñamos una versión simplificada de la portada del sencillo que incluya únicamente el nombre de los artistas y el lettering personalizado de “SEÑORES”, para optimizar la legibilidad y el reconocimiento en las plataformas de streaming.
PROMO MATERIAL. We were also commissioned to conceptualize and design the supporting material for promoting the single and the music video on social media, so we made some screen printing inspired posters, using only two “inks”.
MATERIAL PROMOCIONAL. También se nos contrató para conceptualizar y diseñar el material para anunciar el lanzamiento del sencillo y el videoclip en redes sociales, así que diseñamos varios carteles inspirados en la técnica de la serigrafía, utilizando una paleta de dos “tintas”.

VINYL. Finally, as a especial promotional piece, we envisioned how the single’s artwork would look if it were to be printed on a vinyl record’s label.
